We aim to protect the soil from erosion, reduce the use of copper and increase organic matter in the soil. Therefore, we use green manure which is fundamental to naturally reintegrate enriching substances in the soil and use various cover crop techniques to increase soil fertility.

We do not use glyphosates and do not weed; the grapes are grown following an environmentally friendly approach that requires exclusive usage of organic fertilizers and no spraying of chemicals on the vines.

Low yield of grapes per hectare, thanks to modern vine training systems such as guyot or the single curtain system, assure good quality wines. In general, there is a consensus that if vines are grown with a very high yield, a poor wine will result due to the slow and insufficient ripening of the grapes, caused by an unfavorable leaf-to-fruit ratio.

We use drones and satellites to study soil geomorphology to address specific needs in different areas of the vineyard. We thus improve the accuracy of operations in the vineyards using Smart Farming, combining telematics and data management with the systems used in Precision Farming.

The GPS technology we use provides us with data on different vineyard management zones based on vine vigor which, together with maps of water status, allow us to make decisions on fertilization and differentiated harvesting. We believe that data-driven agriculture, with the help of robotic solutions incorporating artificial intelligence techniques, sets the ground for the sustainable agriculture of the future.

In particularly dry periods, thanks to the humidity sensors installed in the ground, we can gauge the water stress of our vines and irrigate them using a system of underground channels of water from our artesian well. This allows us to optimize the amount of water used and reduce water waste.

Our solar panels produce most of the energy supply the company needs for its day-to-day operations; at the same time, we work to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the vineyard.

We introduce selective beneficial insects into the vineyard to fight only naturally malicious bugs, to reduce crop damage using only natural methods and products and not insecticides and pesticides. This type of biological control strategy using natural antagonists helps to restore the natural balance of the eco-system by reintroducing native or allochthonous species.

PIWI vines are fungus-resistant grape varieties and require almost no spraying. They are considered a very important step forward for the sustainable viticulture movement and are also Organic Certified. PIWI vines cover about 16% of the company’s area under vines.
